Welcome!

World Film Festival--Kelowna presents The Travelling World Community Film Festival March 8-11th, 2012. Films will be screened at UBC Okanagan and at Okanagan College (KLO Campus). See the schedule for room details.

The film program this year features an outstanding selection of 38 documentary films from over 25 countries which will educate, entertain, and inspire. The Travelling World Community Film Festival is known for the incredible breadth of topics covered as well as for the first class quality of the productions screened--these are films that are sure to educate, entertain and inspire.

Film topics include environmental, social justice and human rights issues. This event is supported by UBC Student Union Okanagan, UBC Okanagan's Cultural Studies Department as well as Okanagan College's Department of Communications. We make it happen locally with a dedicated group of volunteers who love and appreciate what this festival brings to our bioregion. The events are non-profit and support our community by raising funds for locally community non profits.

We welcome Okanagan residents of all ages to enjoy this year's films. Again this year we aim to support a special Family Programme, Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Okanagan College.

Admission to films is FREE: Donations are accepted for the Ki-low-na Friendship Centre

The Festival is pleased to be joined by the Kelowna Community Seed Swap which will be held Saturday March 10, in the Okanagan College Student Centre Pit from 10-3 pm.

Education and Preparation for our Collective Future

It is with pleasure that we offer the 10th Annual Travelling World Community Film Festival as a small nudge in the direction of this great turning. First brought to Kelowna in 2003, this travelling Film Festival has already brought 9 years of amazing documentary films to our Okanagan Community.

The gathering storm of climate change, peak oil, food insecurity, war and any number of other critical issues may seem overwhelming at times. The films we present are the stories of people from all over the world who are challenging the limits of the difficult realities they face. The people who inspire us are the dreamers who find ways to not only survive but to do so with joy and passion for life.

The Small Planet Institute says "Hope is not what we find in evidence. It is what we become in action." The films we share with you are a celebration of activism. "Activism," says Alice Walker "is my rent for living on this planet."Activism is the decision we take, individually and collectively to participate in the social and political processes that make and re-make the world every day, and to participate consciously and responsibly with others who share our vision and values. "At a time when opportunism is everything," writes Arundahti Roy, "When hope seems lost, when everything boils down to a cynical business deal, we must find the courage to dream."Source-- the home site of the World Community Film Festival.

All over the world, hope shines through the action taken by ordinary people who dare to confront global forces with the strength of belief in their own possibilities and the strength of their own visions. Together they conspire to create alternative futures. This festival is in their honour.
