Learn more about the Travelling World Community Film Festival

World Community Film Festival, Kelowna presents the 10th Annual Travelling World Community Film Festival March 7-10th, 2013. Films will be screened at UBC Okanagan and at Okanagan College (KLO Campus). See the schedule pages for room details. This year we are expanding to have two theatres running at UBCO on Thursday and Friday March 7th and 8th. We have a special film in honour of International Women's Day on Friday entitled Status Quo, The Unfinished Business of Feminism in Canada.  This film is  shared with our Festival by the Canadian Federation of University Women- Kelowna Chapter

The film program this year features an outstanding selection of over 40 documentary films from around the world. The Travelling World Community Film Festival is known for the incredible breadth of topics covered as well as for the first class quality of the productions screened--these are films that are sure to educate, entertain and inspire.

Film topics include environmental, social justice and human rights issues. This event is supported by Okanagan College's Department of Communications and the OC Faculty Association, and UBC Okanagan's Cultural Studies Department. We make it happen locally with a dedicated group of volunteers who love and appreciate what this festival brings to our bioregion. The events are non-profit and support our community by raising funds for local community groups.

We welcome Okanagan residents of all ages to enjoy this year's festival. Again this year we are hosting a special Family Program at Okanagan College, Saturday & Sunday (March 9-10). On Saturday the Family/Children's room will offer stories and creative activities in the Okanagan College Aboriginal Centre, adjacent to the pit (where Seedy Saturday will be running). On Sunday social justice/environmental-themed children's films, stories, and activities will run (Health Building  Room H108) from 10:00-11:30 and 1:00-3:00. Donations for this program are gratefully appreciated, yet all are welcome to participate as the program is generously supported by the World Community Film Festival.

Admission to films is FREE: Donations are accepted to support the festival AND for the Ki-low-na Friendship Centre and Inn from the Cold.

The Festival is pleased to be joined by the Kelowna Community Seed Swap which will be held Saturday March 9th, in the Okanagan College Atrium Centre for Learning Building from 10-3 pm.

Co-sponsored by the
World Community Development Education Society

The World Community Development Education Society was founded in 1980. Located in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, they have developed the World Community Film Festival which has evolved to have a travelling festival component, which is shared with 12 communities across BC and Canada. Kelowna first hosted this festival 10 years ago, and continues to share the joy and great documentaries with our Central Okanagan Community.
